Welcome to the big chill 2027

The Big Chill is back for year 3!

Get ready to wrap up warm, hit the water and put your technical skills to the test. The Big Chill Winter Technical Race is all about fast-paced paddling, turns, a bit of winter grit and plenty of fun. Whether you’re racing hard for a result or simply fancy challenging yourself or enjoying some friendly competition, it’s a great excuse to keep paddling through the colder months!

Join us on Saturday 16th January 2027 at Foremark Reservoir, Derby, UK

Timings

Registration between 8:30am - 9:15am
Safety briefing at 9:30am
Race starts at 10am
Prize giving at 1:15/1:30pm

Format

Choose your challenge:

4km – one lap and you’re done
12km – three times a charm

The race will have an on-water start and on-water finish, with a mixture of left- and right-hand turns around the 4km course to test your technical skills.

There is NO beach run in this technical event. This is all about paddling, save your running for getting to the front of the cafe queue for your celebratory hot chocolate.

Expect fun, friendly race vibes, plenty of encouragement and a warm welcome whether you’re an experienced racer or fancy giving technical racing a go.

Conduct & safety

Continuous laps around a marked course
Safety boats on the water throughout
PFDs and leashes are mandatory
Drafting is permitted across all categories, open draft - if you can catch it you can have it!
Outside assistance, including towing, pacing or motorised support, is prohibited
Support crews must remain within designated areas
Racers are responsible for their own nutrition and hydration
